Halloween Crocking Part 1

Hi everyone -

Sorry it's taken me so long to update about my Halloween journey. It was a long day. It was a wild day. And it was a long 7 hours of creation.

This is a two part post. This first post is about the creation of the croc.

It all started earlier in the summer. My good friend Mariah had tagged me in many croc memes, but the one that stuck with me was a picture of two girls who had made themselves into crocs for Halloween. I knew I had to do this for a grand high school Halloween finale. And so the journey began.

I needed a material, and lots of it. I came up with the idea to ask a family friend for any leftover cardboard from his company. He brought me a giant roll of cardboard, along with 6 other sheets of various sizes, and he included a very useful tape gun. The hard part was yet to come.

Imagine being a person with limited artistic ability who needs to carve a life size croc. It was frustrating. Luckily, Mariah came over fast to relieve me of my duties. She cut/carved and I painted. Using old house paint, old enough for the can to give me a rusty tin paper cut, I began the therapeutic process of painting two life sized crocs. We had to wait overnight for them to dry.

The next day, Mariah came over again, but this time so that we could begin to tape the crocs together. Let me tell you, if you're looking for a nice and easy costume to make, do not make a croc. It took us 45 minutes to tape together one single croc. By the end, I wanted to punch a wall. We got through the second in 30 minutes, and after that, the hard part was over.

The next step was for the jibbitz. We decided what Halloween themed jibbitz we wanted, printed them, and taped them onto our crocs.

And finally, the advertising. On the back of our crocs was the Croc logo, our croc sizes, and a self-advertising link to the croc blog.

The final task was transportation...

Here's to a crockin' Summer

Afternoon Crockers,

I can't apologize enough for the lack of posts, but I figured that on my last day of summer I might as well do a big master post. In case you didn't notice, there are some big changes in the design of the blog, on both the desktop and mobile versions, so feel free to comment how you feel about it, and if you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Despite the hiatus in posting, I stayed true to my goal of wearing crocs at least once a week. Especially toward the end of the school year, my crocs were worn more than once a week, since they are my lucky test taking shoes.

This summer gave my crocs great exposure. While working at Camp Chingachgook, I found that crocs were the optimal choice in footwear. Not only are they closed toed, crocs are waterproof and comfortable. If I went a day without wearing my crocs then something must have been seriously wrong with me. I made it my goal to keep each shoe themed in terms of jibbitz, and I tried to change the themes at least every session. Let me tell you, if you're ever stuck trying to make conversation with someone, talk about crocs. Crocs are a fashion statement, and when jibbitz are added, it's a whole different ballgame. Kids and counselors of all ages commented about my crocs. I was asked where I got my jibbitz. I was asked if people could have my jibbitz. I was told that people appreciated my themes. I think I can say that my crocs were some of the most talked about footwear of the summer.

Here is a list of some of my themes:

  • Modes of transportation
  • Star Wars (villains on left shoe, heroes on right shoe)
  • All things green (yeah green team!)
  • Superheroes
  • Disney princesses
You can bet that I will continue to wear my crocs at least once a week, and honestly it will probably become an every day thing by the end of senior year. I hope you didn't miss the blog too much (but if you did, I would be very honored)! Feel free to sauce the blog a subscription and please comment below. I want to hear from you, my fans. Also, as an added bonus, giving the blog a shoutout on any form of social media/in person, will get you your own personal shoutout on an upcoming blogpost.

Keep on crocking!
