Guest Crocking pt.3

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! Today's post is a guest post from my incrocable uncle who has traveled all over in his crocs. Enjoy!

For the next year I have the great good fortune of living on a sailboat and traveling from Maine to the Bahamas and back. Given the limited space aboard, every decision about what to bring carries major consequences for boat and crew. Neglect to bring needles and thread and you could find yourself unable to stitch your gollywobbler. Pack too many Twizzlers and you run the risk of tooth decay.

The decision about what footwear to bring was the easiest part. For this entire year I brought just three pairs of shoes. Two pair I hope I never have to wear, and one pair I wear daily. One pair of shoes is my slippers. Sure, they are warm and comfortable. But when I find myself on a boat in slipper weather I know I should be farther south. The second pair of shoes is my sea boots. I wear them when the rain is bucketing down, the seas are breaking, and the wind is howling. No thank you.

It will surprise nobody reading this blog to learn that my primary pair of shoes is my Crocs. Comfortable, fashionable, reliable...these are all useful traits for anyone’s shoes. But another attribute my Crocs have that makes them ideal for the marine environment is that they float.
Don’t kid yourself, things fall overboard when you live on a boat. We’ve already lost a pair of glasses, nailclippers, countless clothespins, a suction cup (don’t ask). But never a Croc. Twice since July we have had brushes with croctastrophe when the errant shoe went over the side. But trusty Crocs float and are easily retrieved.

Years ago I accidentally dropped a favorite pair or Ray Bans over the side and watched them sink out of sight. Never occurred to me to jump in after them. But when a Croc went astray in early Croctober of this year, I leapt into the drink with nary a second thought.

National Croc Day

Croc-a-doodle-doo everybody!

That's right! We're back with another Croctober post, and boy is there a lot to update on.

First off, Binghamton University continues to amaze me with the lovely community of supportive croc wearers. It's inspiring, especially Hughes Hall (see pic collage below). National Croc day was celebrated in full force, with many displaying jibbitz galore and crocs of many colors. It was beautiful.

Second point to make is that it has officially gotten to the point, in my professional opinion, where to be comfortable, socks with crocs are important. I'm sure foot tolerances change person to person; however, at the first light snowfall in Binghamton, I knew that with my poor foot circulation, socks from this point forward were necessary. I'm curious when this occurs for other people. Do you ever wear crocs with socks? Do you always wear socks with crocs? At what point in the year is it necessary for you to wear socks when going out in crocs? Please answer in the comments below.

Thirdly, I got new jibbitz. This moment was bittersweet, considering this was not the first time I had ordered these jibbitz. In the summer of 2016, I ordered 3D crocodile jibbitz and I loved them, but by the end of the summer, every one of those jibbitz had been lost, with the exception of the body of the green crocodile. I was novice at that point, so I now know how to take better care of my jibz. I will not let this tragedy happen again. They add a new flair to my crocs, and they were well worth the $8 I spent on them.

Croctober is coming to an end, but what a fun month it was! Feel free to comment any ideas you might have for my next posts, and if you want to guest blog, definitely reach out!

Croc on everybody :)

Croctober

Hello to my loyal fanbase-

I would like to start this post off by apologizing. One year ago I promised you all a two part croc post after Halloween, and I did not deliver. I could list off a bunch of reasons as to why I failed you, but I won't. I've decided I'm just going to start fresh and try to recap my year as best I can.

After Halloween Crocking Part 1, a few things happened. Mariah and I won our school's costume contest, and received SO MUCH candy. It was crazy. Mariah ended up leaving her croc at school for probably a month, and I got yelled at because a teacher thought it was mine. SMH. I posted our photos all over the place. I figured after all the time we put in, I'd be able to get a free pair of crocs. But boy, this was a lot more work than I thought it would be.

We both posted on Instagram. I also posted on Facebook and Twitter. Crocs only LIKED my tweet, whereas they were retweeting other (and less creative) costumes from that day. I was furious. So I sent customer service an email relaying my disappointment, and soon after, I received a DM from crocs asking me my color preference and shoe size. Mariah and I received our free pairs of beautiful white crocs soon after.

These white crocs are fantastic -- the classiest shoes I own. I refuse to put jibbitz in them, until maybe my wedding, where I hope to get real diamond jibbitz. Maybe instead of a ring I'll get proposed to with a diamond jibbit. THAT would be freaking cool. Or both...I'd accept both.

This summer, I wore my crocs constantly...duh. I traded jibbitz with people. My amazing co counselor kindly gave me some of her jibbitz so that she could "start fresh." One camper traded me a metal millennium falcon (!!!!!!) for a Peppa pig. Like?????? I really finessed that deal.

Binghamton contains an incredibly vibrant community of crockers, which is what I've been most impressed with. I see people all around wearing their crocs. Not many are #rockingwhitecrocs. But that's ok. They'll get there. My suitemates have been rocking crocs constantly, and I'm so proud of them. I went on a campaign one day to advertise that crocs were 50% off, and many people on my floor purchased some...even my RA (shoutout @Jaryd)

I'm disappointed to say that Crocs have ignored my many attempts to advertise for them #sadtweet but it's fine, I'm fine. I'll get there too.

Anyway, I don't want to bombard you all with more details, but I would just like to say that I'm happy to be back. Blogging about my crocking life. Let me know if you have any ideas for new posts.

Happy Croctober!
